Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Somatic Therapist

Phoenix Wood, LCSW, SEP (they/them) is a white, queer, trans and non-binary psychotherapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner who has been practicing since 2014. They believe deeply in healing as a journey that is both personal and relational, contemporary and ancestral. Phoenix works to educate themself on and incorporate anti-racism, body positivity & fat acceptance, body-based healing and trauma recovery into their practice. This is an ongoing journey.

“Choosing to work through one’s past, relationships, or current challenges can be a tough and bold decision toward empowerment. I believe we all hold the insight and strength we need and that it may take time to figure how to access these tools. It is my goal to work alongside you in this process. I strive to co-create with you a safe-enough and non-judgmental space to allow exploration, connection and creativity in therapy.

My work has focused on supporting queer, trans, and/or non-binary identified individuals, survivors of trauma and oppression, and folks navigating depression, anxiety, grief/loss and complexities in relationship to others. I utilize trauma-informed practice from a feminist, queer and anti-racist perspective, incorporating Attachment and Psychodynamic theories. I work relationally with clients and use Mindfulness and Somatic Experiencing techniques with active consent.

I look forward to hearing from and learning about you.”

Most recently, Phoenix’s training/interest has focused on somatic and touch therapy. Phoenix completed Kathy Kain's Touch Training Series (90 hr) in 2021, in addition to the Somatic Experiencing training program (2019) and a masterclass on Syndromes with Peter Levine (2021). Additionally, Phoenix supervises clinicians at Therapy Center of Philadelphia, an agency that prioritizes racial and gender equity.

Phoenix graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy and Practice (MSW) in 2014 and from Rutgers College (BA) in 2004.
